Ludhiana woman killed in Canada, man held for ‘intimate partner homicide’

Damanpreet Kaur, 23, a native of Samrala in Ludhiana district, was killed in Edmonton, Canada.
Ritish Kumar, 22, was charged with second-degree murder in what police called an intimate partner homicide.
Kaur was found unresponsive with suspicious injuries on July 9, 2026, and died in hospital on July 12.
The cause of death was determined to be strangulation by autopsy on July 14.
A GoFundMe campaign was launched to repatriate Kaur's body to India.
