Medellín, Colombia planted 880,000 trees under the Green Corridors programme to tackle rising temperatures.

The greening effort added over 2.5 million shrubs and other plants along roads, parks, rivers, and public spaces.

Studies showed localised cooling of up to 5°C in shaded areas from the tree plantation.

The Green Corridors project began in 2016 to combat the urban heat island effect caused by rapid urban growth.
