Doctor assault case: IMA defers strike after HC relief, warn of bigger stir from August 9

IMA postponed its July 20 statewide strike after Bombay High Court intervened in the assault case and denied bail to accused Shiv Sena corporator Ramesh Mhatre.

IMA demands amendments to the Maharashtra Medicare Service Persons and Medicare Service Institutions (Prevention of Violence and Damage or Loss to Property) Act, 2010.

If the state government fails to strengthen legal protections for healthcare workers, IMA will revive the strike from August 9, starting with a 24-hour token protest.

Pune, with over 5,200 IMA members, is expected to lead the agitation with more than 10,000 doctors likely to join.

Government doctors, medical officers, medical teachers, and government nurses are expected to join the strike after serving a mandatory 15-day notice.
