World Cup gold-medallist rower fails dope test

Indian rower Lakshay was provisionally suspended after testing positive for stanozolol in an out-of-competition sample collected in Pune on May 25.

Lakshay won lightweight double sculls gold with Ujjwal Singh at World Cup III in Switzerland last month, India's first-ever rowing World Cup gold.

The gold medal result stands to be annulled if the anti-doping violation is confirmed.

The suspension is a blow to India's Asian Games preparations, as the Lakshay-Ujjwal duo was a medal prospect.
