Indian student's parents seek $30 million from Texas Tech

Parents of Vaibhav Duggal, a 24-year-old Indian medical student at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center, filed a $30 million lawsuit after his suicide in July 2025.

Vaibhav Duggal died by suicide while wearing his doctor's white coat, following a disciplinary complaint from a female patient at the OB/GYN clinic and a departmental investigation.

The patient alleged Vaibhav asked about her relationship, followed her on Instagram, and then blocked her; he was suspended and faced dismissal for a professionalism lapse.

The lawsuit claims Texas Tech University's opaque disciplinary process lacked due process and mental health support, causing severe psychological distress leading to his death.

The family seeks accountability, independent review, and policy reforms to prevent similar cases.
