After July 6 Landslide, MSRDC Unveils IIT Bombay-Backed Safety Plan For Mumbai-Pune Expressway Missing Link

MSRDC prepared a safety action plan for the Mumbai-Pune Expressway Missing Link based on IIT Bombay recommendations after a July 6 landslide near the tunnel.

IIT Bombay assessed rainfall using a 1,000-year return period, replacing the earlier 100-year design, to enhance slope failure risk mitigation.

Recommendations include diverting rainwater from the tunnel and carriageway, installing stronger steel wire mesh, stabilizing slopes, and redesigning drainage channels.

Implementation began with immediate monsoon interventions like securing boulders and installing netting, expected to complete in 8–10 days.

Long-term works, such as diverting drainage channels, will occur after monsoon and take one to two months to complete.
