RGV: 'Flop movies run the industry,' recalls Rs 1 crore actress

Director Ram Gopal Varma told Great Andhra that Telugu cinema's financial troubles stem from directors' lack of accountability and producers' poor understanding of budgets.

Varma said directors should be held accountable for budget overruns, but this is largely missing in the Telugu film industry.

He claimed that even hit films often yield little profit for producers because inflated budgets consume returns.

Varma described a senior actress who was paid Rs 1 crore for a 10-day call sheet, yet she only shot for a single day, citing it as an example of wasteful spending.

He argued that Telugu film financiers should be called 'investors' rather than 'producers' because they lack genuine involvement and expertise.
