Himachal: BJP alleges illegal surveillance; false charge, says Congress

BJP accused Himachal Pradesh's Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu-led Congress government of large-scale phone tapping and illegal surveillance on opposition leaders and its own ministers, calling it 'vendetta politics'.

Leader of opposition Jai Ram Thakur alleged police and vigilance machinery are diverted to monitor political rivals, with phones of opposition leaders and their personal security officers being tapped.

Thakur claimed nearly a dozen sitting and former BJP legislators face fabricated criminal cases meant to intimidate them, and warned the BJP would review and withdraw politically motivated charges if returned to power.

Thakur criticized the administration for frequent bureaucratic transfers, lack of a permanent director general of police, and recent transfer or suspension of over 50 police personnel.

Congress chief minister's principal media advisor Naresh Chauhan dismissed the allegations as 'baseless' and 'fragments of imagination', challenging Thakur to provide proof.
