'Sheikh Hasina will be arrested before she can surrender': Bangladesh minister on deposed PM's return
Bangladesh Law Minister M Asaduzzaman said Sheikh Hasina will be arrested upon return to Bangladesh before she can surrender to a court.
Sheikh Hasina, deposed prime minister, was sentenced to death in absentia in November 2025 for crimes against humanity during the 2024 student-led protests.
Hasina has been in hiding in India since her government was toppled in August 2024.
She told a news agency she is determined to return to Bangladesh by December 2026 despite fearing arrest or death.
Hasina's passport has been revoked by the interim government; the minister stated the law will take its course upon her entry.
