‘To be signed at right time’: India-US trade deal framework ‘ready’, says official
The framework deal for an India-US trade agreement is ready and awaiting signing at an appropriate time, said an Indian official.
India is seeking a tariff structure that provides it with a comparative advantage over competing countries under the proposed agreement.
The official stated there are no differences between the two sides and negotiations are progressing smoothly, with both the framework deal and a bilateral trade agreement being negotiated.
Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal and US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer held bilateral discussions on the first phase of the proposed trade agreement.
Goyal said negotiating teams from both countries are fully engaged in working towards a balanced, commercially meaningful pact beneficial to businesses, farmers, workers, and consumers.
