These rare 'black roses' grow naturally in only one region of Turkey, and this natural wonder is known as 'Louis XIV

The Halfeti black rose, or Karagül, grows naturally only in Halfeti, southeastern Turkey.

The rose appears jet-black as a bud and transforms into a deep crimson as it opens.

Its unique colour results from the soil, climate, and environmental conditions along the Euphrates River.

The variety was commercialized in Europe in 1859 by French breeder Guillot under the name 'Louis XIV'.

The rose is protected with a geographical indication (GI) tag.
