Delhi Police seeks capital punishment for former AAP councillor Tahir Hussain and four others convicted in the murder of IB officer Ankit Sharma during the 2020 northeast Delhi riots.
The prosecution described the killing as “exceptionally brutal”, “cold-blooded” and falling within the “rarest of the rare” category, citing 51 injuries, 18 from sharp-edged weapons, and assault continuing after death.
The court reserved its order on the quantum of sentence for July 31.
On July 13, a Delhi court convicted Hussain and four others, holding that Hussain was part of an unlawful assembly with animus against Hindus that committed rioting, loot, arson, and damage to Hindu properties.
