Lorenzo Thompson, a Southwest Airlines flight attendant, was detained by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) on July 14 while at work in Nashville, Tennessee.
Thompson entered the U.S. from Jamaica on a six-month visa in 2021 and remained after it expired, according to ICE.
A GoFundMe campaign organized by his friend Kristin Foster states Thompson fled life-threatening abuse in Jamaica and has a valid work visa and pending asylum case.
Thompson's union, TWU Local 556, confirmed he has no criminal record and was following legal steps toward citizenship.
