Sen. Angus King said Homeland Security Secretary Mullin told him the victim was not the target of the warrant ICE officers were executing.
The 26-year-old Colombian native was identified by immigrant rights groups.
The Maine attorney general’s office said initial statements suggest the motorist was trying to flee in the direction of the agent.
This is the second time in a week ICE agents have used deadly force and at least the ninth since President Donald Trump's immigration crackdown began.
