What time will stock market close from today? New timings and rationale explained

From today, stocks with F&O contracts will close continuous trading at 3:15 p.m. and enter a 20-minute Closing Auction Session until 3:35 p.m.

Stocks without F&O contracts will continue trading until 3:30 p.m., and index and stock derivatives will trade until 3:40 p.m.

The Closing Auction Session concentrates liquidity at the end of the day, enabling smoother execution of large orders and a more accurate closing price.

The new auction-based closing price replaces the volume-weighted average price (VWAP) of the last 30 minutes for eligible F&O stocks, reducing the impact of last-minute large orders.

Similar closing auction mechanisms are already used at the New York Stock Exchange and the London Stock Exchange.
