Final act of service: Brain-dead soldier gives fresh lease of life to 6 families

  1. Naib Risaldar Virender Singh, an Indian Army soldier, suffered a brain stroke while deployed at 16,000 feet in Ladakh.

  2. He was declared brain dead on July 21, 2026, after being airlifted to Command Hospital, Western Command, Chandimandir.

  3. His wife, Kusum, consented to organ donation, leading to the retrieval of two kidneys, a liver, lungs, and two corneas.

  4. The organs were transplanted, with one kidney and both corneas at Command Hospital, the second kidney sent to SOTTO Haryana, the liver to Army Hospital (R&R) New Delhi, and the lungs to KIMS Hospital Hyderabad.

  5. A green corridor was created with military police, civil administration, and local authorities to ensure timely transport of organs.
