Trump confirms Netanyahu's US visit next week amid regional tensions

U.S. President Donald Trump confirmed Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will visit the U.S. next week, announced during the White House Correspondents' Association Dinner.

Netanyahu and Trump agreed to meet weeks ago after a phone call where Netanyahu praised the U.S.-Israel relationship and congratulated Trump on the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States.

The visit comes amid escalated U.S.-Israeli conflict with Iran following a ceasefire breakdown under a Memorandum of Understanding between the U.S. and Iran.

The U.S. military's Central Command conducted a 13th straight night of strikes against targets in Iran, while Iran responded with attacks including a strike on a U.S. base in Jordan that killed three American soldiers.

Netanyahu's visit also occurs as Israel continues its military campaign in Gaza, despite a U.S.-backed ceasefire announcement.
