The decision follows a high-level meeting with BJP MLA Sanjay Kelkar, who urged transparency in smart meter testing.

MSEDCL Chief Engineer Kakade said traditional and smart meters record usage identically, dismissing claims of higher readings.

Over 300,000 smart meters have been installed among 750,000 consumers in Thane; readings will be compared for 2-3 months.
