4 months on, Class 9 students at Chandigarh govt schools still await social science textbooks

Class 9 students at Chandigarh government schools have not received social science textbooks nearly four months into the 2026-27 academic session.

Teachers reported students attended classes from April 1 to summer vacation on May 23 without textbooks, and the digital version does not allow printing.

Director of school education Nitish Singla blamed delayed printing by NCERT, stating books will be distributed in two days.

The new textbook, Understanding Society: India and Beyond, replaces four separate social science textbooks under NEP 2020 and NCF-SE 2023.

The social science volume was the only one of five new Class 9 NCERT textbooks not printed and on DIKSHA by late May.
