Chandigarh: 4 city minors die after being swept away during Kanwar Yatra in Haridwar

Four minors from Chandigarh — Shivanshu, 16, Nitish, 16, Bharat, 16, and Rohit, 17 — drowned in the Ganga during Kanwar Yatra in Haridwar on Friday.

The boys entered the river at a non-designated bathing spot and were caught in a strong current; they had jumped in to rescue another group member.

Bodies were recovered by rescue teams and sent to district hospital for post-mortem; families have been informed.

The victims were residents of Sector 30-B and Bapudham Colony in Chandigarh; they had left for Haridwar on Thursday to collect Gangajal.

The incident occurred hours after authorities rescued two other Kanwariyas near Har Ki Pauri.
