Brij Bhushan's acquittal in sexual harassment case a 'slap in opponents' face': WFI chief
A Delhi court acquitted former Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh and co-accused Vinod Tumar in a sexual harassment case filed by women wrestlers.
WFI president Sanjay Singh called the acquittal a 'slap in the face of our opponents' and said the allegations, including by World Championship medallist Vinesh Phogat, were baseless and politically motivated.
The case stemmed from April 2023 protests by women wrestlers at Delhi's Jantar Mantar, leading to two FIRs against Singh and charges under IPC sections 354, 354A, 354D, and 506.
A chargesheet was filed in June 2023, charges were framed in May 2024, and the trial concluded with final arguments on July 2, 2026.
A separate FIR by a minor wrestler was closed in May 2025 after police investigation.
