Ireland recovered 99 infant remains from the former Tuam mother and baby home in County Galway.

The Tuam Mother and Baby Institution, run by the Bon Secours Sisters, operated from 1925 to 1961.

Historian Catherine Corless uncovered 796 death certificates for infants at the home with no burial records.

A state-authorised excavation by ODAIT found remains in underground chambers, with 22 recovered between June and July 2026.

DNA analysis aims to identify the children and restore their identities. It acknowledges a dark chapter in Ireland's institutional history.
