Workers lived in a permanent settlement called Heit el-Ghurab (Lost City), with housing and a royal administrative building.

Their diet included meat (cattle, sheep, goats), bread, and beer, with about 4,000 pounds of meat per day supplied.

Workers received advanced medical care and were buried with honour in tombs near the pyramids.
