Ludhiana: Teachers collect ₹3L for colleague’s family who died during SIR duty

Teachers in Ludhiana collected nearly ₹3.3 lakh for the family of computer teacher Pritpal Singh, who died of a heart attack during Special Intensive Revision (SIR) election duty on July 7, 2026.
Harjit Singh Sudhar, district general secretary of the Democratic Teachers’ Front (DTF), said Pritpal Singh's family was not entitled to any financial assistance from the department.
Pritpal Singh, 41, was a government school teacher and served as a Booth Level Officer (BLO). He is survived by two children aged 12 and 5.
Union leaders handed over the collected funds via cheques and advised the family to invest in fixed deposits for the children's future.
DTF continues to pursue compensation and a government job for Pritpal Singh's wife with the district administration and Election Commission.
