Marlboro cigarette maker Godfrey Phillips quarterly profit drops on tobacco tax

Godfrey Phillips, maker of Marlboro cigarettes, reported a fall in quarterly profit.

Consolidated net profit dropped to Rs 198 crore from Rs 356 crore year-on-year.

The decline was attributed to higher tobacco taxes.

Profit fell 44% despite a 44% rise in first quarter profit being reported earlier.
