High court petition seeks SIR extension by 3 months in Karnataka

Karnataka high court posted to Tuesday a PIL seeking extension of the ongoing SIR in Karnataka by three months.

Petitioners Devanooru Mahadeva, Ramachandra Guha, SG Vombatkere, and Sabiha Bhoomigowda filed the petition.

The petition also seeks clarifications regarding rules formulated for the SIR process.

Petitioners argue administrative infrastructure deployed is not commensurate with the scale of the exercise, with inadequate voter facilitation centres and heavy dependence on BLOs.

There is no clarity on the absentee/shifted/dead/duplicate and others (ASDDO) category in the Election Commission of India’s guidelines.
