Jackie the bald eagle remains in intensive care

Jackie, the Big Bear bald eagle, remains in intensive care at the Ojai Raptor Center with a 'very serious' condition, believed to have been ill before being attacked by two younger eagles.

Shadow, Jackie's mate, was photographed perched with a subadult female eagle on Wednesday; volunteers suspect it may be the same eagle that clashed with Jackie.

Shadow continues to protect the nest from intruding subadult eagles, while Luna also helped chase away an intruder.

FOBBV consulted an eagle expert who says Shadow is unlikely to abandon the nest due to his strong bond with Jackie, and will not seek a new mate until breeding hormones activate around late December or early January.
