Ambedkarite organisations protest Maharashtra govt's proposed sub-categorisation of SCs

Thousands of Ambedkarite organisations protested in Jalna, Maharashtra against the proposed sub-categorisation of Scheduled Castes in reservation.

Dalit leader Anandraj Ambedkar warned the Maharashtra government that sub-categorisation will divide Scheduled Castes and weaken community unity.

Anandraj Ambedkar alleged authorities are suppressing protesters in Delhi with force and called on Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan to resign.

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said the state has not taken a final decision and will act after consultations and in compliance with Supreme Court directions.

The Supreme Court allowed sub-classification of SCs for quotas only based on quantifiable data of backwardness and representation in jobs.
