Police head constable Hiralal Shamrao Shelar was seriously injured after motorcyclist Hamza Arif Shah rammed into him at a checkpoint in Kharghar, Navi Mumbai.
The incident occurred around 1:30 am on July 13 during a combing operation at Papdicha Pada, where Kharghar Police had set up a barricade.
Shelar, attached to Khandeshwar Police Station, signalled the black Bajaj Pulsar to stop; the rider instead accelerated and hit him.
Shah was detained but later released after being served a notice under Section 35(3) of the BNSS.
A case was registered at Kharghar Police Station under Sections 132 and 121(1) of the BNS.
