1978 California cold case victim identified after 48 years

Michelle Louise Collier, a 15-year-old who vanished from Fresno in February 1978, has been identified after 48 years as 'Arvin Jane Doe' through forensic DNA technology.

Her skeletal remains were discovered in a shallow grave in a vineyard near Arvin, California on June 21, 1978; an autopsy confirmed homicide.

Investigators exhumed her remains in 2007 for DNA analysis but could not identify her until recent advances in forensic science enabled the identification.
