Sitamarhi ‘waste to wealth’ project, lauded by PM Modi, may be in limbo after officer’s transfer

The 'waste to wealth' project in Sitamarhi district, lauded by PM Modi in Mann Ki Baat, is in limbo after officer Sandeep Kumar was transferred on July 16.

Sandeep Kumar, as Deputy Development Commissioner, initiated collecting plastic waste from panchayats and processing it into useful materials like benches and desks.

The project collected about 11,000 kg of single-use plastic waste, with 4,500 kg used to make around 100 bench-desks.

In February, Kumar partnered with Buxar-based plastic processing firm founded by IITian Sanjeet Rai to facilitate the efforts.

Kumar is currently waiting for a new posting, during which he may not draw salary until formally posted.
