Kanan Fire erupts near Thousand Oaks and Westlake Village; smoke chokes Conejo Valley as residents share videos

The Kanan Fire broke out near Thousand Oaks and Westlake Village, California, sending smoke across the Conejo Valley.

Ventura County Fire crews responded to the vegetation fire near Westlake Boulevard and East Kanan Road, first reported around 2:10pm local time on August 2.

Evacuation Warnings were issued for Zones Thousand Oaks 16, 17, 32, 36, and 37.

Firefighters stopped the forward progress of the Kanan Fire, as announced by the City of Agoura Hills.

The fire occurred during an extreme heat warning, with temperatures soaring into triple digits.
