West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari directed police to seek death penalty for the gateman arrested in the Murshidabad level crossing accident that killed five.

A train rammed into a school vehicle at Govindpur level crossing on July 17, 2026, killing four students and one other person.

Adhikari met victims' families and handed over cheques of ₹5 lakh each, and instructed the SP and DM of Murshidabad to monitor the investigation closely.

He called for a special public prosecutor and a custodial trial to ensure capital punishment for the gateman.

Adhikari assigned the district administration to address families' demands within 15 days and urged villagers to support the bereaved.
