First illegal school building razed as BMC steps up crackdown

BMC demolished Tehzeeb Islamic English School in Govandi, the first such action against an illegal school.

All 250 students were relocated to recognized schools before the demolition.

The education department had listed 164 unauthorised schools across Mumbai in March 2026.

FIRs have been registered against 74 schools as part of the crackdown.
