Mumbai: BMC Standing Committee Warns Of Vigilance Probe Over Alleged Splitting Of Civic Contracts To Bypass

Mumbai's BMC Standing Committee chairman Prabhakar Shinde warned of Vigilance Department probes for civic departments splitting large contracts (Rs 80 lakh to Rs 1.5 crore) into smaller ones (Rs 5 lakh to Rs 75 lakh) to bypass tendering.

BJP corporator Preeti Satam alleged the administration splits proposals to avoid scrutiny and demanded a report on total expenditure from piecemeal proposals.

Shiv Sena (UBT) corporator Ramakant Rahate questioned why proposals already approved by ward committees were re-brought to the Standing Committee.

Shinde accused departments of withholding complete project details and completing works before approval, prompting referral to Vigilance.

The Environment and Climate Change Department sought Rs 47 lakh for IEC activities, sparking the debate.
