Sri Lankan-origin doctor arrested in Canada for possessing child sexual abuse material

Dilan Dissanayake, a Sri Lankan-origin doctor at Toronto's Hospital for Sick Children, was arrested and charged with possessing and accessing child sexual abuse and exploitation material.

The investigation by Toronto Police's Internet Child Exploitation Unit began in January 2026, leading to search warrants in February at the hospital and a private residence where multiple electronic devices were seized.

Police found no evidence linking the material to Dissanayake's work as a physician, and the hospital placed him on immediate leave upon learning of the investigation.
