Mumbai: BMC Invites Agencies To Boost On-Site Wet Waste Processing, Offers Upto 15 Per Cent Property Tax

The BMC has invited Expressions of Interest (EOIs) from agencies to help Bulk Waste Generators (BWGs) process wet waste at source, offering property tax rebates up to 15 percent.

BWGs, which include housing societies and commercial establishments with built-up area over 20,000 sq m or generating over 100 kg wet waste daily, must install on-site processing systems or hand over waste management to BMC.

Of 3,177 identified BWGs, only 513 properties have earmarked space for on-site processing units, and only 347 of 2,749 eligible societies have availed the tax rebate.

Following a Bombay High Court criticism, BMC has launched a cleanliness crackdown, with Municipal Commissioner Ashwini Bhide ordering CCTV surveillance at dumping hotspots and mapping garbage vulnerable points on Google Maps.

Selected agencies will provide end-to-end support including site assessment, technology selection, installation, operation, and maintenance, using BMC-approved technologies.
