Bengaluru newborn's limb saved in rare surgery
More than 300 people raised nearly Rs 30 lakh to fund limb-salvage surgery for a newborn diagnosed with infantile fibrosarcoma at HCG Cancer Centre in Bengaluru.
The baby's tumour grew from 3 cm to over 11 cm in weeks, and multiple hospitals had recommended amputation.
Dr. Pramod S Chinder led a rare limb-salvage procedure involving genomic testing, 3D surgical planning, micro-embolisation, microvascular reconstruction, and NTRK-targeted therapy.
The treatment was reviewed with experts at Italy’s Rizzoli Orthopaedic Institute and is considered India’s first successful limb-salvage in a 28-day-old with IFS.
