'You ignored because she was poor?': Supreme Court lambasts doctor, hospital for denying care to 4-year-old rape victim

Supreme Court lambasted a private Ayurvedic doctor and hospital in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, for denying medical care to a 4-year-old rape victim.

The three-judge bench of Chief Justice Surya Kant, Justices Joymalya Bagchi and V. Mohana questioned if the child was ignored because she was poor.

The court told the doctor he had no right to use the title 'doctor' if he failed to perform his duty and lacked empathy.

The bench rebuked the doctor for not providing primary care and suggested he should have taken the child to another hospital.

The court directed the doctor and hospital to consider paying compensation, calling the hospital's conduct 'most ruthless'.
