Elon Musk said 'Being an entrepreneur is like eating glass and staring into the abyss of death' at the Founder Showcase event in 2010.

Musk described December 2008 as one of his worst periods, including a failed SpaceX rocket launch, Tesla's funding falling through, and his public divorce.

He explained 'staring into the abyss' as constant awareness that most startups fail, and 'eating glass' as having to work on the problem the company needs solved, not the one you prefer.
