SC asks JioStar to approach Delhi HC in TRAI tariff framework dispute

The Supreme Court asked JioStar India Pvt Ltd to approach the Delhi High Court with its plea against the TRAI's television channel pricing framework.

JioStar argued that TRAI's tariff orders are administrative and fall under TDSAT's jurisdiction, while regulations are delegated legislation challengeable only before a high court.

The broadcaster cited that TRAI's framework treats a luxury hotel with hundreds of TVs at par with a single-bedroom household for pricing, calling it 'comparing apples with oranges'.

JioStar's 2014-2015 petitions before the Delhi High Court challenging the regulations and tariff orders remain pending due to related proceedings before the Supreme Court.
