Phase One of the Kala Ghoda Art Avenue pedestrianization project was inaugurated by CM Devendra Fadnavis at cost of ₹8 crore.
The project revamped Dr VB Gandhi Marg and three adjoining streets: Rutherford Marg, B Bharucha Marg, and Sai Baba Mandir Marg.
BMC led the project as part of its master plan to transform the Ballard Pier-Colaba precinct into a walkable district.
The firm UDAI paved streets with black granite and grey basalt, reimagining the streetscape for alfresco dining.
Phase Two, slated for completion within one year, will expand to additional streets and include a public plaza and underground parking.
