Ashwin hints at truth behind Rohit retirement rumors

R Ashwin believes there was 'fire' behind Rohit Sharma retirement rumours despite BCCI denying them.

A media report claimed Rohit was no longer in India's plans for the 2027 ODI World Cup, with chief selector Ajit Agarkar and head coach Gautam Gambhir backing Yashasvi Jaiswal as opener.

BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia categorically denied the report, saying the Lord's ODI would not be Rohit's farewell.

Rohit responded with a 138 off 110 in the third ODI against England at Lord's, becoming the first Indian to score an ODI century there.

Ashwin argued Rohit is still recovering from an IPL 2026 injury and could have scored 180 if fully fit.
