UP assembly elections will be held on time, Census work can be extended: CEC Gyanesh Kumar

Chief election commissioner Gyanesh Kumar said UP assembly elections will be held before May 24, 2027 deadline.

Census work may be extended if needed, according to Kumar at a conference in New Delhi.

By-elections will not be held in Ghosi, Duddhi, and Faridpur constituencies due to less than a year left for assembly polls.

Kumar stated there is no plan for online elections as the Constitution does not provide for them.

The Election Commission received 786 cases in the past year, winning 785, with voter turnout exceeding 92% in West Bengal assembly elections.
