Firouzja wins Chennai Grand Masters as Gukesh suffers shock last-place finish

Alireza Firouzja won the Chennai Grand Masters title with 4.5 points from two wins and five draws.

Firouzja held Arjun Erigaisi to a draw in the final round to secure the championship.

World champion D Gukesh finished last in the eight-player round-robin tournament with two points.

Gukesh suffered three losses in seven games and drew with Hans Niemann in the final round.

Firouzja received Rs 25 lakh for the win; total prize purse was Rs 75 lakh.
