Highway deaths dip in India for 1st time since Covid

Fatalities on national highways in India fell 4.1% to 62,122 in 2025 from 64,772 in 2024.

This is the first decline in NH deaths since the Covid pandemic.

Uttar Pradesh recorded the steepest decline, with NH deaths dropping from 9,560 in 2024 to 7,573 in 2025.

States including Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, and Rajasthan saw a rise in NH fatalities.

states and UTs recorded a decline in NH deaths, while 15 reported an increase.
