Inunganbi Takhellambam, a 22-year-old judoka from Manipur, qualified for her first Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, competing in the women's 70kg category on Saturday.
She became the first Indian in 13 years to win a medal at the Asian Judo Championships, earning a bronze.
In June 2024, she underwent arthroscopic medial meniscectomy for a knee injury and recovered with support from the Inspire Institute of Sport (IIS) and coach Baye Diawara.
She is currently training at ASJJ Judo Club in Paris, focusing on fitness, technique, and tactical preparation.
Early in her career, she traveled three days by train to competitions, often sitting on the floor, which still motivates her.
