Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang announced government jobs for eligible family members of taxi drivers killed in road accidents.
The announcement was made at the eighth 'Sarathi Samman Diwas' event at Manan Kendra in Gangtok.
From next year, the government will distribute four taxis per district to deserving drivers, expanding the existing scheme of 12 taxis annually.
The All Sikkim Sarathi Welfare Board provides educational assistance, housing support, health insurance, and parking infrastructure for drivers.
A Reciprocal Transport Agreement with West Bengal doubled the counter-signature permit quota for Sikkim taxis from 3,000 to 6,000.
