Chandigarh: Court rejects PU prof’s second bail plea in wife’s murder case

Additional sessions judge Dr Harpreet Kaur rejected Panjab University professor Bharat Bhushan Goyal's second bail plea in the murder case of his wife Seema Goyal.

The defence argued no direct evidence connected Goyal and that daughter Dr Parul Goyal had testified, but the court held this was not a substantial change in circumstances.

The court cited the Supreme Court judgment in Virupakshappa Gouda v. State of Karnataka (2017), noting that filing a chargesheet indicates sufficient material for trial.

Goyal was arrested on December 8, 2025, nearly four years after the incident; charges were framed on May 11.

Central Forensic Science Laboratory found the iron mesh door was cut from inside, contradicting forced entry; prosecution also used a Brain Electrical Oscillation Signature profiling report.
