Punjab: PPCB orders restoration of 5 polluted ponds in Ludhiana’s Alamgir village

Punjab Pollution Control Board (PPCB) ordered immediate restoration of five polluted ponds in Ludhiana’s Alamgir village.

Water samples collected on February 26, 2026 exceeded prescribed pollution limits under the state action plan for village pond rejuvenation.

PPCB issued a show-cause notice on May 25, 2026 to the DDPO Ludhiana and executive engineer for violations of the Water Act, 1974.

The board directed initiation of environmental compensation proceedings against rural development authorities.

Rural development authorities must finalize a wastewater treatment system within seven days and prepare restoration estimates.
